Woman crushed by Land Rover; suspect arrested for DUI

ARCATA – An Arcata man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving early this morning, May 6, after he ran over a woman who jumped out of the car while he was still entering a driveway.

Timothy Bolton, 45, of Arcata, was driving a 2005 Land Rover and was in the process of parking on a driveway on Plunkett Road, east of Jacoby Creek Road, at about 2 a.m. when passenger Jennifer Mallett, 35, of Arcata, suddenly jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving. She was run over by the Land Rover and sustained major injuries including a broken leg, fractured pelvis and abrasions.

Mallet was transported by ground ambulance to Mad River Community Hospital.

According to the California Highway Patrol, alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this collision and the driver, Bolton, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.  The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area is investigating the incident.
