ARCATA MARSH – Overnight on March 1 and 2,  someone drove a suspected 4X4 truck from I Street onto the trail west of Allen Marsh, then up onto Mount Trashmore, a protected habitat area of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.Picture 021

Lacking much else to destroy, the truckheads then somehow wrenched an interpretive sign out of the ground, despite it being heavy and anchored in concrete.

The project left the ground scarred with tire tracks. The sign, which explains how the area nourishes animals and participates in the food chain, was otherwise undamaged and was put back into place Wednesday, March 4. Trail access has since been embouldered to block access to the area.

Another wave of dolt-on-sign violence recently swept the marsh, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
