“With Dan Collen’s retirement effective 1 November 2016, I am pleased to share the news that, following an internal search process, Tom Trepiak will serve as interim athletic director for Humboldt State University, also effective 1 November,” said HSU President Dr. Lisa A. Rossbacher. “Tom’s skills fit HSU’s current areas of emphasis, including fiscal management, knowledge of the full range of sports programs, a deep understanding of compliance and gender equity, and experience in fund raising.”

Trepiak’s work with the department’s annual Celebrity Dinner & Sports Auction has raised millions of dollars for student-athlete scholarships. His position as associate athletic director featured a focus on compliance, fundraising and external affairs.

"It is an honor and privilege to have this opportunity to help the department at this critical juncture in its history. My focus will be on developing a sustainable budget while maintaining gender equity,” said Trepiak. "It has been a blessing to work alongside Dan Collen for the last 15 years. I look forward to partnering with our coaches, staff and the community in the months ahead to continue Dan's legacy of service for student-athletes."

Trepiak graduated from Humboldt State with a degree in journalism in 1981, and he received his Master’s degree from the University of Portland in 1987.

“Please join me in wishing Dan Collen the very best on his new adventures following retirement from HSU, and in welcoming Tom Trepiak in his new role as interim athletic director,” said Rossbacher.

A national search to find Collen’s replacement will begin in January.
