Suspect in McKinleyville robbery arrested at casino

TRINIDAD/MCKINLEYVILLE – Deputies arrested a suspect last night, March 2 for an armed robbery that took place in McKinleyville on Feb. 18.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Cher-Ae Heights Casino in Trinidad at about 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a wanted person, 34-year-old Joshua Reed Keyes, was on scene gambling.

When deputies arrived and found Keyes, he tried to flee, but was apprehended and cuffed without further protest. Deputies searched Keyes and found 9 grams of meth and the keys to a silver Jaguar, which was used as the get-away car in the robbery.

Sometime before 4 a.m. on Feb. 18, Keyes and another man allegedly forced their way into a residence on the 2300 block of McKinleyville Avenue in McKinleyville and held a female victim at gunpoint. The suspects stole an assault rifle and marijuana from a medical grow belong to a man, who was at the residence when deputies arrived. The suspects then fled in the Jaguar. No one was injured in the robbery.

After his arrest last night, Keyes was booked into the county jail on suspicion of robbery and a felony parole violation. He is not eligible for bail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
