The Blue Lake Fire Department, with the assistance of the Fieldbrook Fire Department and Arcata Fire District, responded to the 300 block of Blue Lake Boulevard at about 1 a.m. this morning, April 12 for a report of a house fully engulfed in fire.

A Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the intersection of Greenwood Road and Blue Lake Boulevard and contacted Ty Allison, 61, who was standing in front of his burning residence.

“Allison told the deputy he started the fire to watch it burn,” stated a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. “The Sheriff’s Office has had prior contacts with Allison at the residence related to mental health issues.”

Allison was arrested on suspicion of arson and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. His bail was set at $250,000.

The deputy contacted family members of Allison and determined that no one was injured or inside of the residence when he started the fire.

As of this morning, the scene of the fire was being secured by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and a search warrant was being obtained so the Arson Task Force can investigate.
