Scott leaving Chamber at end of year

Note: the following letter was sent out to members of the Arcata Chamber of Commerce today. – Ed.

Dear Members,

Executive Director Sandy Scott has informed the Chamber Board that she plans to resign from her position effective December 31 of this year. She and her husband Harry will be moving to Asheville, North Carolina.

Sandy’s decision is sad news for us, but not unexpected. She has been considering this move for some time, and she has given the Board frequent updates about her plans.

We will definitely miss Sandy’s leadership, friendship, and outgoing personality. She brought a dynamic energy to the Arcata Chamber of Commerce and to the broader community, and during her three years with the Chamber she has succeeded in re-energizing the organization. She played a part in recruiting nearly 200 new members, building stronger relationships with other organizations, and creating new programs to better support our business community.

Sandy provided an extended notice to give the Board time to work out a smooth transition. She told us she’ll be focused on ensuring the Chamber is in a strong position when she leaves.

The Board Executive Committee will be serving as the Hiring Committee for a new Executive Director, and in July we will finalize a plan for the search. Feel free to contact me through the Chamber offices at 822.3619 if you have questions or suggestions for possible candidates.

Frank Whitlatch
Board President

P.S. – Please plan to join your friends and neighbors on the Plaza for July 4 festivities, which the Chamber hosts each year. There’s quite a line-up of music, kids fun, and more throughout the day. More information.

Leaving for a more progressive, healthy community. Can’t say I can’t blame her or her husband.
