NORTHERN HUMBOLDT – Newly released vote counts have changed the outcome of the Northern Humboldt Union High School District Board of Trustees race.
Today's Post Election Update gives incumbent Trustee Dana Silvernale a 20-vote edge over fellow incumbent and Board President Mike Pigg.
Top vote-getters in that race remain challenger Brian Lovell and incumbent Trustee Colleen Toste, with Silvernale now coming in third in the race for three open seats.
Registrar of Voters Carolyn Crnich said the latest count, with 1,644 additional votes tallied in the NHUHSD race, includes absentee ballots delivered to precincts on election day, plus provisional ballots.
Though the the final election tally will be completed next week, today's published results are unlikely to change, Crnich said. Only hand counts of randomly chosen precincts, a legally required verification measure, remain to be done.
"I believe these are what you'll see next week," Crnich said of the counts released today.
Todays results (and the election night tally):
Brian Lovell – 3,182 (2,766)
Colleen Toste – 2,911 (2,557)
Dana Silvernale – 2,774 (2,429)
Mike Pigg – 2,754 (2,475)
Mark Suchanek – 2,160 (1,919)
Total NHUHSD votes : 13,885 (12,241)
While vote counts changed in the Manila Community Services District, McKinleyville Community Services District, McKinleyville Union School District and Arcata Fire Protection District races, the winning candidates remain the same.
