ARCATA – Four musicians – the ones who rock stars hire to help make them sound amazing – will perform at Jambalaya Arcata, 915 H St., on Friday, Dec. 13 right after Arts! Arcata.

The Mike Keneally Band, whose members have played with Frank Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Dethklok, The Aristocrats and Carly Simon, among others, will play the Jambalaya in the last of four shows on the band’s “California Tourette.”

Mike Keneally, Bryan Beller, Rick Musallam and Joe Travers will perform music from Keneally’s new album, You Must Be This Tall, as well as his newly remastered and reissued 1998 album Sluggo!

Keneally was Frank Zappa’s final “stunt guitarist,” and has since enjoyed a storied songwriting and performing career with multiple solo albums and tours. He is a sought-after session player, having performed and recorded with Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa, Andy Partridge and Dethklok. Keneally recently completed a world tour with the Joe Satriani band, playing both guitar and keyboards.

Longtime Keneally bass player Bryan Beller last performed at the Jambalaya with Keneally in 1996 with Beer For Dolphins. Beller is a solo artist and member of The Aristocrats with Guthrie Govan and Marco Minnemann. He has also played with Steve Vai and, along with Keneally was in the Joe Satriani Band for the recent tour. In 2010, he played at Mosgo’s in Arcata, accompanying singer Kira Small.

Guitarist Rick Musallam has played, toured, recorded and co-written with Ben Taylor, Carly Simon, Bird York, Janet Robin, Nick D’Virgilio, Pete Griffin, The Roots, Gwen Stefani and others. He recently did a stint with Cirque de Soleil, on the show Totem.

Joe Travers is a seven-year veteran of Zappa Plays Zappa and has played with  Duran Duran, Lisa Loeb, Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes), Warren Cucurullo and others. He fronts his own group, Joe Travers & Friends, which often plays the famous Baked Potato in Studio City. Travers is “Vaultmeister” for the Zappa Family Trust, working closely with Gail Zappa to curate the musical legacy of Frank Zappa.

Opening for the Mike Keneally Band will be local metal heroes WAR MÖTH: Wolf Navarro, guitar, vocals; Dan Davis, bass; Kelly Brannon, drums.
