McKinleyville bans smoking in parks

MCKINLEYVILLE SMOKING BAN The days of swinging on a swing or playing baseball at a park in McKinleyville with a lit cigarette dangling out of the side of your mouth are over – at least if you want to follow the law. Virginia Slims, Marlboro Reds and all other cigarettes, including electronic smoking devices, can no longer be used in parks owned by the McKinleyville Community Services District (MCSD) following adoption May 2 of a resolution by the district’s board of directors. The smoking ban was suggested by the McKinleyville Recreation Advisory committee, which cited concerns about public health and litter from cigarette butts. The district plans to install signs at its parks notifying the public about the ban.
