Man dies after truck plunges off bluff in Shelter Cove

SHELTER COVE  – On Aug. 25  at about 11:46 a.m. the California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a reported single-vehicle traffic accident in the area of Lower Pacific Drive at Abalone Point, Shelter Cove. The Shelter Cove Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene and declared the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle,  deceased.

For unknown reasons the vehicle had left the roadway, drove through a wooden fence and off a bluff near the ocean. The vehicle came to a rest nose down, approximately 15 to 20 feet below the top of the bluff. The reasons why the vehicle left the roadway are still under investigation.

The deceased person has been  identified as Jason Dewayne Fleming, age 41, of Shelter Cove.
