ARCATA – This morning, April 15 at about 9 a.m., an officer with the Arcata Police Department had just completed a call for service and was entering the parking lot of the Police Department when he observed an adult male allegedly vandalizing city property, including the rear door of the department.
The male suspect, identified as Southern California resident Joshua Eric Wilkes, age 37, was quickly taken into custody for the vandalism. As Wilkes was being placed into the rear of a patrol car, he allegedly spat onto the face of the arresting officer.
Wilkes was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on suspicion of vandalism and battery on an officer.
It was subsequently found that Wilkes is currently wanted for a probation warrant out of the state of Hawaii.
Note: An APD source said Wilkes' vandalism implement of choice was shoe polish. – Ed.
