SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Ashlynn Cox made a layup as the second overtime period expired to clinch Humboldt State’s third straight win, a 60-59 victory over Cal State San Marcos Saturday in The Sports Center.
With eight seconds left in double overtime, HSU’s Allison Zalin sank a 3-pointer to knot the game at 68-68. Savannah Camp sank a free throw on the ensuing possession to give the Cougars (8-7, 5-5 CCAA) a one-point lead before the game-winning basket.
The Jacks improved to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
Tyra Turner led the Green and Gold with 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. She was 7-of-14 shooting, went 1-for-3 from 3-point range and was 3-of-8 at the free-throw line.
HSU trailed by 10 to start the fourth quarter, but Turner and Cox combined for 10 of the Jacks’ 18 points to force overtime. Cox finished the game with 12 points and six boards.
The North Coast team returns to Lumberjack Arena to face rival Chico State Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
