Driver slams into parked truck on Myrtle Ave.


EUREKA – On Monday, June 16  at approximately 9:30 p.m., 21-year-old James Ely of Eureka was driving a 1995 Honda Civic southbound on Myrtle Avenue near Hubbard. 

Witnesses estimated Ely’s speed to be 60 mph as he approach the left hand curve near Russel Lane.  Ely left the roadway and struck the rear of a parked  truck.  The collision trapped Ely in the car with injuries to his legs and head. 

Humboldt Bay Fire responded along with City Ambulance and the California Highway Patrol.  Ely was extricated and transported for medical care.  Ely was the sole occupant of the Honda. DUI is being investigated as a factor in the collision.
