A Board of Supervisors subcommittee will recommend new medical marijuana regulations. The county’s current ordinance is more liberal than those of cities but it’s non-applicable now that the state’s Supreme Court has ruled that quantity limits violate Proposition 215, the state medical marijuana law.

In June 2008, convoys of state and federal drug enforcement agents, 450 of them, converged on the county. A rugged 2,000-acre Southern Humboldt area known as Buddhaville was the focus of the operation and agents searched numerous homes linked to it. One home in Arcata was raided and a small grow located.
Mendosa makes manager; how does Chief Chapman sound? – January 20, 2010
Mendosa has been a City of Arcata employee for the past 30 years. He began his career as a bus driver for the Arcata & Mad River Transit System in 1980. He became a sworn police officer in 1982, and police chief in 2002. He was named acting city manager over a year ago, taking over when Arcata’s then-City Manager Michael Hackett went on medical leave. Mendosa was appointed Interim City Manager in March, 2009.
Woman shot, mate arrested – January 20, 2010
Arcata resident Courtney Weaver was shot in the face and severely wounded Friday night. The assailant, 34-year-old Kenneth Fiaui of Arcata, was arrested on a charge of attempted homicide.
