The house is located next to Cahill Park, through which Arcata Elementary School students pass every morning and afternoon. A steady stream of Humboldt State students living in the neighborhood’s rental homes walked and biked past as officers dismantled the drug labs and laid items out on a tarp in the front yard.
A Board of Supervisors subcommittee will recommend new medical marijuana regulations. The county’s current ordinance is more liberal than those of cities but it’s non-applicable now that the state’s Supreme Court has ruled that quantity limits violate Proposition 215, the state medical marijuana law.
What a suspected home invasion robber couldn’t accomplish on Jan. 15 – taking the marijuana from a grow house at 2457 Eye St. – police did six days later, raiding the place and arresting the occupants.

In June 2008, convoys of state and federal drug enforcement agents, 450 of them, converged on the county. A rugged 2,000-acre Southern Humboldt area known as Buddhaville was the focus of the operation and agents searched numerous homes linked to it. One home in Arcata was raided and a small grow located.
Mendosa has been a City of Arcata employee for the past 30 years. He began his career as a bus driver for the Arcata & Mad River Transit System in 1980. He became a sworn police officer in 1982, and police chief in 2002. He was named acting city manager over a year ago, taking over when Arcata’s then-City Manager Michael Hackett went on medical leave. Mendosa was appointed Interim City Manager in March, 2009.
Arcata resident Courtney Weaver was shot in the face and severely wounded Friday night. The assailant, 34-year-old Kenneth Fiaui of Arcata, was arrested on a charge of attempted homicide.
Andre called the response “very robust,” and said that water samples were taken, since some of the grease appeared to have contaminated the creek.

Exactly one week after what turned out to be a drug robbery at shotgun-point in Larson Park, a cannabis grow house right across the street was invaded by more shotgun-brandishing robbers.
