EUREKA – The repeatedly delayed trial of Redway murder suspect Gary Lee Bullock, 45, has been postponed again until Feb. 29.
Superior Court Judge John T. Feeney vacated the previous Feb. 8 trial start, saying “scheduling concerns and complications” had forced the change.
The county’s judicial system is bogged down with a heavy caseload, a jammed court calendar, a shortage of courtrooms and not enough judges.
The pervasive congestion is the source of a good deal of concern, confusion and grumbling backstage at the courthouse, among staff and attorneys alike.
Bullock is accused of the savage beating death of Father Eric Freed in the St. Bernard Catholic Church rectory on New Year’s Day, 2014. He re-entered his not guilty plea by reason of insanity on Feb. 2.
