EUREKA – Humboldt County Superior Court Judge John T. Feeney sentenced convicted murderer Gary Lee Bullock to two consecutive terms of life without parole today, May 11 for the beating and torture death of Father Eric Freed of St. Bernard Parish here on Jan. 1, 2014.

Freed’s siblings read impassioned victim statements to the court aloud while a screen monitor displayed a large four-color image of Freed’s tombstone  decorated with a bouquet of brightly colored flowers.

District Attorney Maggie Fleming reminded the court that Bullock never once uttered a word of remorse and he did not do so today at his sentencing.

Bullock stared down at the floor as Freed’s sisters read their statements to the court, condemning him in the most comprehensive terms. He uttered no word except “yes, your honor” when Judge Feeney asked if he waived his right to review his probation report five days before his sentencing. He had received it belatedly on Monday instead of last Friday, May 6.

Deputy District Attorney Andrew Isaac successfully prosecuted the case, but Fleming summarized his sentencing report on his behalf.
