Be careful! Big, unpredictable waves to slam coastline

HUMBOLDT – Large, erratic waves will slam the coastline this afternoon, washing over rocks and jetties, and posing a deadly threat to beach-goers.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning and is urging beach-goers to use extra caution near the surf zone “as these large waves will be capable of sweeping people into the frigid and turbulent ocean waters.”

The threat of sneaker waves is mainly from 1 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Sunday. “These large waves can be erratic and unpredictable,” the NWS warns.

Also prepare for heavy rain today starting sometime after 11 a.m. The chance of rain is 100 percent, with a half to three-quarters of an inch possible. The wind will be from 9 t 14 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Sunday will be  partly sunny, with a chance of showers that night after 11 a.m.
