ARCATA – You are invited to the 4th of July Jubilee, the oldest festival on the Plaza, hosted by the Arcata Chamber of Commerce since 1959.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday, the event includes:
The National Anthem, performed at 10:45 a.m. by the chamber’s own Leah Crenshaw-Pepke. She will also perform in The Bump Foundation, the first band to perform, starting at 11 a.m.
Other entertainment includes Samba Quente, Lizzy and the Moonbeams, Vintage Rock N’ Soul, Ya Habibi Dance Company, Asha Nan, Kingfoot and the Humboldt Aerial Collective.
Join Bubbles at 10th and H streets at 10:30 a.m. to participate in their second annual Bubbles Parade. The Crabs will be available in the center of the Plaza at 11:30 for autographs and Rick Levin, Chamber president, will throw the first pitch at the game that starts at noon.
The Kid’s Zone, sponsored by McKenny’s Do It Best, on Eighth Street will be tons of fun, with spin art, bean bag toss, Kinetic Paranormal Society and The Ridiculous Olympics [details on page B3], complete with octopus races, volleyball with balloons and at noon the National Anthem (again) will be sung by Stella from Gunsafe to start the Ridiculympics, face painting, Waxitives, Balloon Guy, break dancing and the Circus Emporium.
Shoshanna will be in her ball gown welcoming you to join her for a tea party, formal attire not required.
The event will have a diverse group of food vendors that include anything from the exotic Annie’s to Frito Pie and Naan of the Above, Indian Tacos, best chicken wings maybe ever, Nature’s Serving, Humboldt Hot Dogs and Dashi, who has decided to join us on the Plaza with a twist to their usual yummy fare.
Yes, there is beer being sold at the corner of G and Ninth streets that includes brews from new Chamber member, Six Rivers Brewery.
You are encouraged to visit the many stores around the Plaza and our wide array of vendors that include many you will recognize and some new ones too.
It is a day to celebrate… being with friends and family, enjoying a day off, and celebrating the birth of our country. Please join this relaxing, fun-filled day.
