HUMBOLDT – Later this week Humboldt coastline is expected to be battered by massive waves, with breakers in excess of 35 feet on Friday.
Swells are expected to be 25 to 30 feet.
According to the National Weather Service Eureka office Area Forecast Discussion web page, “The exact magnitude of the swell is not certain. Standby for more information and possible warnings or advisories.”
The biggest concern is safety, with the possibility of strong sneaker waves. Beach goers should use extreme caution, or better yet skip going to the beach. Take a stroll in the dunes instead, or visit the forest.
For those who enjoy wave watching, an ideal location is at the southern tip of the North Jetty. You can sit up on the tall dunes and watch the ginormous waves roll and crash through the entrance to Humboldt Bay.
But don’t stroll along the jetty itself. Doing so is a good way to get yourself killed,
